  1. How much does analytics cost?

AdMob Mobile Analytics is completely free. There is no cost to install or use, regardless of site size.

  2. Do I need to be an AdMob advertiser or publisher in order to use AdMob Analytics?

No, you can use AdMob Mobile Analytics as a standalone product. You do not need to register or use the AdMob Marketplace.

  3. Why is AdMob doing this?

We feel that an analytics solution that is free, easy to use and provides accurate and actionable data will help improve the mobile experience for publishers, advertisers, and consumers. Our intentions are straightforward; we hope that AdMob Analytics provides a catalyst for the mobile web to grow.

  4. Can I use my existing AdMob username and password to login?

Yes, your existing AdMob account will work to login. If you do not have an AdMob account, you can sign up for one at analytics.admob.com.

  5. If I change my password on the Analytics site, does that change my password for Admob.com?

Yes. Your account shares a password between analytics.admob.com and www.admob.com.

  6. I'm an analytics newbie. What are the 3 things I should really care about?

AdMob developed our analytics solution to answer three primary questions. These are by no means the only things to consider when analyzing the performance of your site, but if you are new to analytics, these are a good place to start:

    • Where is my mobile traffic coming from?
    • What are users doing on my site when there arrive?
    • What are my key metrics, and how can I optimize my mobile site to improve them?

  7. Does the AdMob advertising network share the Terms of Service with Analytics?

No. There is a separate terms of service for analytics.

  8. Will my data be kept private?

We will never share your site data with a third party, except in non-identifiable aggregate form. In limited cases, AdMob engineers and technical staff may need data for quality or maintenance purposes. You will also have the option to give AdMob employees access to your account using the "Account Access" feature if you need support in any way.

  9. Do you use the data collected for optimizing your ads?

AdMob may use analytics data in an effort to optimize and improve the performance of the AdMob advertising network. If you are running AdMob campaigns, we may optimize your advertising based on conversion data. Optimization is done entirely by machine algorithms, not by human review.

  10. Can you filter out specific phone numbers from my data?

Most carriers only provide an encrypted identifier in the header information, not a subscriber phone number.

  11. Can you access raw data for a specific user?

No. All visitor data is aggregated when analyzied and reported, removing any personally identifiable information.

  12. I'm already an AdMob publisher. Do I need to install new code for Analytics?

Yes. You need to replace your old code with a new version that supports both analytics and ad serving. We optimized the request to minimize impact to your site and made several improvements to make it faster and more convenient. You will still use the same site id in addition to your new mobile analytics site id. You cannot use your analytics site id for ad service or your ad site id for analytics service.

  13. What changes do I have to make in my Web site or links to use this product?

You only need to install the small code snippet on the mobile pages you wish to track and then update your servers. You do not need to modify any of your URLs.

  14. I don't want to serve ads on my mobile site. How can I be sure I won't start serving them when I install the code?

For any new analytics site, ad serving is disabled by default. You need to explicitly enable ad serving by editing the code so there is no danger of mistakenly requesting ads. You can elect to install analytics on all pages on your site, and then enable ad serving on only the pages you choose to. You need to have a publisher site ID in order to serve ads, which can be obtained from admob.com.

  15. Will you provide a tracking pixel if I cannot make modifications to my web server?

Yes. We will provide a pixel option, although some AdMob Mobile Analytics features that require full integration will not be avaiable with this solution.

  16. I'm concerned about page load times - what weight of code are we talking about?

The code is a light weight snippet and was designed to minimize latency. The server request only needs to be received by AdMob; there is no server response required. In most cases, the latency is only the network time required for the request to hit the AdMob server.

  17. Can I use AdMob Analytics for my PC website?

While not optimized for PC websites, you can use AdMob Analytics if you want to measure mobile traffic contacting your website. Since it was built for mobile, some features may not be relevant on your PC website.

  18. Are the AdMob Mobile Analytics stats based on web logs?

No. Stats are based on the page requests and header info provided to us during a users visit to your mobile site.

  19. Can I use AdMob and Omniture side-by-side?

Yes. There is no problem using both analytics providers side by side.

  20. Which development environments do you support?

We support PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, Perl, C#, VB.NET & ASP. We will also consider other languages in the future. Please send as an email if you are interested in a language not currently supported.

  21. Will the stats I see be consistent with my AdMob publisher account?

Usually. However, sometimes a device doesn't manage to load a page completely, which can lead to minor discrepancies

  22. How often are the reports updated?

All reports with the exception of the Dashboard are updated every 24 hours, at the end of the GMT day.

  23. How do you define a visit?

We developed our definition of visits and unique visitors using the Web Analytics Association guidelines. Visits are calculated using a formula based on unique visitors combined with heuristics derived from overall site usage patterns. If an identified user returns to your site within 30 minutes, it will be counted as part of the original visit.

  24. How do you define a unique visitor?

Unique visitors are calculated using two primary identifiers, which vary by carrier, device, etc. We use either a cookie or a unique identifier in the HTTP headers, such as MIN. We have also developed proprietary methods to identify unique visitors.

  25. What is an example of an event I could track using AdMob Mobile Analytics?

One common event is user registration. For example, you could record an event at the start and at the end of the registration flow to measure completion rate.

  26. Is advertising source tracking the same as event conversion?

No. Source tracking allows you to add parameters to your click through URL across any ad provider so you can identify the source of the traffic. You can then compare the effectiveness of the leads sent by each provider or compare separate campaigns against each other.

  27. What information do you use from the mobile operator gateways?

We use several sources of information passed to us from the gateways. One example is the IP address of the gateway, which allows us to identify the operator in the visitor reports.

  28. Where do you get your information on handsets and other features of the device?

AdMob is an active supporter of the open source WURFL database and we contribute back to WURFL whenever possible.

  29. How long does it take to activate a site?

Your site will be activated on the first request we receive. You will then receive an email indicating that your site is active; the status for that site on your homepage will also change to active. It may take up to 36 hours for your reports to be fully populated.

  30. Can we track the performance of other ad networks using analytics?

Yes. Source tracking allows you to compare traffic from any source you want, including other ad networks.
